POMONA
– A 23-year-old Pomona woman accused of drowning her 5-year-old son
in a bathtub pleaded today, the District Attorney’s Office
announced.
Deputy
District Attorney Lindley Heher of the Pomona Branch Office said
Josie Stephanie Navarro pleaded no contest to second-degree murder
and was immediately sentenced to 15 years to life in state prison.
Under the terms of a negotiated plea agreement, Pomona Superior
Court Judge Jack Hunt dismissed a count of assault on a child
causing death.
On Oct. 20,
2008, Navarro drowned her young son in a motel bathtub before taking
over-the-counter sleeping pills. Responding officers of the Pomona
Police Department were unable to revive the boy.
