December 18, 2012: Victim’s Ex-Husband Charged With Her Murder

A 59-year-old Tarzana man was charged today with fatally shooting his ex-wife and wounding the woman’s male friend, the District Attorney’s Office announced.

Hrant Meguerian (dob 1-6-53) is scheduled to be arraigned at Van Nuys Superior Court, Department 100, sometime this afternoon. He was charged in case LA072833 with one count of willful, deliberate and premeditated murder and one count of attempted murder, said Deputy District Attorney Rena Durrant. The complaint alleges Meguerian personally discharged a handgun.

Meguerian allegedly fatally shot Azniv Meguerian shortly before 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the victim’s residence in the 4500 block of Vanalden Avenue, and a 49-year-old male, police said. Police said Meguerian allegedly was arguing with the male victim before he pulled out a gun and shot both victims.

Prosecutors will ask bail be set at $5 million. If convicted, he faces up to life in prison.
