A 48-year-old homeless man has been charged with raping a woman at a closed grocery store parking lot in Glendale, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced today.

Deputy District Attorney Miguel Espinoza said Michael Zinzun (dob 5/28/68) faces one count each of forcible rape, forcible oral copulation, sexual penetration by foreign object, kidnapping to commit rape and resisting arrest.

Case GA099762 includes the allegation that the defendant was convicted in Florida for a sexual assault in 1998 and burglary in 2005.

Arraignment is scheduled this afternoon in Department 1 of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Glendale Branch.

In the early hours of Sept. 29, Zinzun is accused of dragging a woman who was sleeping on a bench to a parking lot and sexually assaulting her, the prosecutor said. A witness called 911 and when police arrived the defendant fled but was arrested soon after, the prosecutor added.

If convicted as charged, Zinzun faces a possible maximum sentence of life in state prison. Bail has been set at more than $3.3 million.

The case remains under investigation by the Glendale Police Department.
