A 34-year-old man was sentenced today to six years in state prison for assaulting a woman in March, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

At today’s court appearance, defendant Rudy Anthony Gallegos of Los Angeles pleaded no contest to a felony count of assault with intent to commit a sex crime in case GA095830.

In addition to the prison sentence, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Jared Moses also ordered Gallegos to register as a lifetime sex offender.

Deputy District Attorney Presciliano Duran, who prosecuted the case, said in the early afternoon of March 3, Gallegos abruptly assaulted a woman as she was walking in Alhambra.

According to the prosecutor, the defendant struggled with the victim, pulled her to the ground and began to take off her clothes.

The woman screamed and three passersby heard her cries, the prosecutor said. They ran to the victim, pulled Gallegos off of her and subdued the defendant until police arrived, the prosecutor added.

The case was investigated by the Alhambra Police Department.
