A Bellflower man was sentenced today for fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend in her Bellflower apartment, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Antowan Ladell Parker (dob 6/17/89) was sentenced by Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge John Torribio to 75 years to life in state prison plus 17 years and eight months in case VA143818.

Deputy District Attorney Steven P. Schreiner prosecuted the case.

On January 16, 2017, Parker barged into the Bellflower apartment of his estranged girlfriend, Kenia Buckner. Once inside the residence, Parker pointed the gun at several of the victim’s family members before fatally shooting Buckner. Three of the couple’s children were present at the time of the shooting, two of whom directly witnessed the murder, according to prosecutors.

In March, Parker was convicted by a jury of one count each of murder, assault with a semiautomatic firearm and possession of firearm by a felon.

The jury also found true allegations that the defendant personally and intentionally discharged a firearm, which caused great bodily injury and death to the murder victim, and that Parker was previously convicted of first-degree burglary, person present, in 2010.

The case was investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
