A 23-year-old man was sentenced yesterday to 12 years and four months in state prison for attacking his former girlfriend with a machete in Agoura Hills, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced today.

Deputy District Attorney Robert DuFour said Travis Anthony Hunter was sentenced after pleading no contest on Oct. 13 to willful injuring of a girlfriend and first-degree burglary with a person present.

On July 18, Hunter broke into his former girlfriend’s residence and attacked her with a machete while she laid in bed, the prosecutor said.

The case was investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Lost Hills Station.
