A 31-year-old man has entered a plea for a fatal DUI crash into a disabled vehicle on the 57 Freeway more than two years ago, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced today.

Deputy District Attorney Cindy Park said Vincent Michael DeLaVega (dob 12/16/88) of Santa Ana pleaded no contest yesterday to one felony count of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.

Sentencing is scheduled for March 2 in Department P of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Pomona Branch. DeLaVega is expected to be sentenced to 10 years in state prison with no custody credits.

On Oct. 28, 2017, victim Eduardo Goncalves’ vehicle crashed into a tow truck on the south 57 Freeway near Diamond Bar Boulevard. The 28-year-old’s vehicle came to rest in the second and third lanes as a result of the crash, the prosecutor said.

Soon after, DeLaVega, who was driving his Toyota Tacoma at a high rate of speed, collided with the disabled vehicle, killing the driver, the prosecutor added.

Case KA116628 was investigated by the California Highway Patrol, Baldwin Park Station.
