A 21-year-old man was charged today with fatally stabbing a woman at a home last Friday, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Alan Bedros Gozukara (dob 7/5/96) of Whittier has been charged with one count of murder in case VA147662.

The felony complaint includes a special allegation that the defendant personally used a deadly and dangerous weapon, a meat cleaver, during the commission of the crime.

Gozukara was scheduled to be arraigned today, but the court appearance was continued to tomorrow, May 9, in Department 4 of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Bellflower Branch.

On May 4, Gozukara allegedly attacked his mother’s caretaker in their Whittier home, prosecutors said.

When police arrived at the residence, they reportedly spotted Gozukara and after some time, took him into custody, prosecutors added.

The victim also was found in the backyard and pronounced dead at the scene, according to prosecutors.

If convicted as charged, the defendant faces a maximum possible sentence of 26 years to life in prison.

The case is being investigated by the Whittier Police Department.
