March 20, 2014: Man Charged in Killing of Chihuahua Caught on Tape

A man accused of deliberately running over his estranged wife’s pet Chihuahua has been charged with animal cruelty and other counts, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced today.

Michael David Parker (dob 7/9/68) of Sherman Oaks was charged late yesterday with one felony count each of cruelty to an animal with an allegation that he used his car as a deadly weapon, and animal neglect.

Case SA086567 also charges Parker with one misdemeanor count of petty theft of a dog.

He is scheduled to be arraigned on March 25 in Department 144 of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Airport Branch.

Prosecutors said that on Dec. 28, 2013 Parker took the Chihuahua to a Hawthorne alley and then ran the dog over leaving him to die. The incident was captured on video.

If convicted on all counts he faces a maximum possible sentence of five years, two months in state prison.

The case is being investigated by the Hawthorne Police Department.
