May 11, 2018: Man Charged with Grabbing Woman, Teen in Downey

A man was charged today with grabbing a woman and a teenage girl in two separate incidents in Downey, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Sala Robert Pires (dob 11/18/89) was charged with one misdemeanor count each of sexual battery and child molesting in case 8DN03789. He is expected to be arraigned today in Department 7 of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Downey Branch.

According to prosecutors, Pires approached the victims as they were walking along a public street and allegedly grabbed their buttocks, then ran away. He is accused of groping the woman on April 9 and the teenager on May 9.

Pires faces a maximum possible sentence of one year and six months in jail if convicted as charged.

The case remains under investigation by the Downey Police Department.
