A man was charged today with stabbing his stepfather to death in Lawndale on the Fourth of July, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Robert Schneider (dob 6/28/66) of Van Nuys faces one count of murder in case YA098537. The charge includes allegations of using a deadly and dangerous weapon, a knife, and a prior conviction, according to the criminal complaint.

Schneider’s arraignment was continued today until July 23 in Department 4, Los Angeles County Superior Court, Torrance Branch. Bail was set at $2.07 million.

According to prosecutors, Schneider allegedly stabbed his stepfather multiple times in the victim’s driveway. He then allegedly dropped the knife and walked away while witnesses called 911 and followed the defendant until police arrived.

Schneider faces a maximum possible sentence of 56 years to life in state prison if convicted as charged.

The defendant was convicted in 2017 of second-degree robbery in case YA094649. His probation in that case also was revoked today without bail.

The murder case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
