A 37-year-old man has been charged with killing his elderly hospital roommate last month, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced today.

Reginald Daniel Panthier (dob 2/25/82), a Long Beach area transient, faces one felony count each of murder, elder abuse resulting in death, elder abuse with infliction of injury and assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury.

Deputy District Attorney Miriam Avalos of the Elder Abuse Section said the charges include allegations of inflicting great bodily injury and that the victim was 73 years old.

Panthier pleaded not guilty to the amended charges today and is scheduled to return on March 19 in Department S01 of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Long Beach Branch. Case NA113774 was filed on February 4 and amended on February 10 after the victim passed away.

Panthier is charged with assaulting Francisco Sanchez-Reyes at College Medical Center on January 31, the prosecutor said. The victim died as a result of the injuries on February 8.

Bail is set at more than $1 million. Panthier faces a possible maximum sentence of 50 years to life in state prison.

The case remains under investigation by the Long Beach Police Department.
