A Gardena man was charged today with attempting to stab his father to death, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Austin Jordan Rachall (dob 6/15/98) faces one felony count each of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon, a knife, in case YA101615.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges today and is scheduled to return to court on February 28 in Department 4 of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Torrance Branch.

On February 7, Rachall was in the passenger seat as his father drove when he allegedly began stabbing his father who then crashed the vehicle near Prairie Avenue and Artesia Boulevard in Torrance, the prosecutor said. When the father exited the vehicle, the defendant reportedly continued stabbing the victim, the prosecutor added.

The attack ended when a good Samaritan driving by pulled over and intervened.

Bail is set at $1.05 million. Rachall faces a possible maximum sentence of life in state prison if convicted as charged.

The case remains under investigation by the Torrance Police Department.
