Each year, arson causes millions of dollars in losses to
individuals, insurers, and the government. These losses affect
everyone – they result in higher insurance premiums, taxes, and
other costs. The worst consequences, however, are not financial, but
personal. Arson is a dangerous crime. It devastates victims
emotionally and often results in serious injury or death.
The District Attorney’s Arson Section works with local law
enforcement investigators and other prosecutorial agencies to
apprehend and prosecute arsonists. Deputy district attorneys in the
Arson Section also educate the community about this dangerous crime.
The most serious arson cases are vertically prosecuted by deputy
district attorneys in the Arson Section, which means that one
prosecutor handles the case from beginning to end. These specially
