Organizers hope to raise the bar for this year’s Food From The Bar campaign.

From May 1 through June 2, LADA employees may volunteer and donate money to help the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank’s efforts to provide meals for children who may go hungry over the summer while school is out.

Deputy District Attorneys Stacie Mayoras and Kelly Howick are organizing the office’s efforts for the second year in a row. Their goal is to raise $5,000, up from about $3,100 collected last year, and increase the number of volunteers during this 10th year of the fundraising competition.

“It’s another way our office can give back to the community of the victims and witnesses and families we serve,” Mayoras said.

Food From The Bar’s regional organizers have set their own ambitious goal of getting 100 teams from area law firms, law schools and legal service organizations to compete. The campaign aims to raise $500,000, collect 10,000 pounds of food, involve 1,000 volunteers and provide 2 million meals for area children.

Awards are given to teams that raise the most money, provide the most volunteers, best utilize social media, show the most creativity and raise the most money per capita, among other accomplishments.

Last year, the District Attorney’s Office earned silver-level status for its contribution.
